Movies, Songs and Magazines would be a great help – this is the easiest DIY
(Do It Yourself) way to enhance your English speaking while you are learning at
the same time. You can also enjoy watching your favorite movies and songs that
you are familiar with and it will be much easier for you if the movie has
sub-titles and lyrics to your favorite songs so you can follow word by word and
if a word will appear new to you, pause and make a research on it
so that you can fully understand each sentence. Do this simultaneously and you
will see your progress.
Get a Partner to make a conversation – what is learning English
without communication? Have a partner that knows how
to speak in English, so he/she
can correct your mistakes. You can also have a partner who is still learning English,
you can learn together. It is much better if you have someone to talk or ask
for while learning English.
Sign-up to YouTube channels – before enrolling in a school there are many tutorial video on YouTube
that you can watch, this can help you gain more basic knowledge in English
language, it can boost your confidence in class to participate because you have
a little background about English. There are also different kinds of topics
that you can choose, it can be about politics, news or different kinds of blogs
that can keep your interest with. If you are a fan of a foreign actor you can
go online and watch all his/her interviews, write down the expressions that
they are doing and imitate their accent.
Ask questions, as many as you can possibly think – asking questions can
drive you to learn fluently the English language. While you are learning
English you will soon
compile a bunch of question, for example when to use the “there and their”, so
be curious and learn how to use it. If you are enrolled in a course, then it is
an advantage for you because you can always ask your teacher (this is why you
are enrolled, after all).
Know why you are doing this and believe – when you doubt yourself,
think about your
motivation on why you pursue on learning English, is it for a job or is it for
enrolling in an international school. If it is for school purpose, then focus
on vocabulary that is related to the course that you want. Don’t hate yourself
when you come to the
point that you’ll say to yourself “I’ll never get this”, it is effective when
you avoid saying this phrase, you’re making and convincing that your goals
of speaking English fluently is unreachable. Instead, say “I’m making
improvements day by day”. Remind yourself the reason why are you doing this. In
no time you will notice the
difference. This is the best way to maintain your language skills in a long
term, it is not easy, but it will be all worth it.
